THE EASTERN SPORADES
The Eastern Sporades lie off the coast of Asia
Minor. Imbros and Tenedos belong to Turkey; most of the remainder, which
extend south to the Dodecanese, are under Greek sovereignty. Samothrace and
Lemnos, the most northerly, are described for convenience with Thrace. The
islands generally are more fertile and greener than the Cyclades, and if they
have been less explored for relics of antiquity they have preserved more of
the customs and traditions of the more immediate past.
