Taking the ferry from Italy your first stop on the Greek mainland is Igoumenitsa.  If you want to explore Northern Greece this is where you wish to begin. A short trip inland you will find Lake Ioannina.  Going south along the coast you can visit the cities of Arta with its turkish packhorse bridge and the ancient sites at Preveza.  Slightly inland you will find many rivers and lakes where few tourist venture.
